Hi! My name is Evan Cunningham. I’m an American economist based in Sydney, Australia.
My academic research focuses on the intersection of labor economics, urban economic, and public policy. My goal is to help policy makers, business leaders, and curious citizens better understand the forces shaping their national and local economies, so we can advocate for and put into action policies that help people and places thrive.
I am the founder of Epic Econ - a free newsletter providing accessible, concise, and actionable analysis of national and local economies. Check it out here!
I hold a PhD from the University of Minnesota, a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University, and a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University.
During my 10+ year career, I served as an economist at the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, where I helped produce the official U.S. monthly jobs report. I have also worked at the U.S. Census Bureau, the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, and the Minnesota Population Center.
